Si Chuan Dou Hua

Type:

Restaurant

Location:

Raffles Place, Singapore

Departing from traditional conceptions of Chinese restaurants, the restaurant combines a distinct Millennial sensibility at the same time as it draws inspiration from China’s rich heritage. The stunning view of the city far below may command the eye, but it is the interiors that provide a soothing visual relief. The Celadon crockery, tea cups, brass wares and various geometric shapes common in Chinese architecture provide a subtle temporal counterpoint to the slick chandeliers, lanterns, shimmering chain curtains and brass mosaics. Meanwhile, a tapestry of geometric stones inspired from a paving pattern in a garden in Suzhou frames the opposite wall of brass-lined cutouts with backlit onyx slabs that allow views into the restaurant space.
